The Week Of Music
I have three short pieces to learn for an audition next week. One is in Italian. The other two are just vocalizing notes in a sort of choral fashion. All of the music is classical in nature sporting a vocal range of mezzo to high C.

I have no idea if I can hope to be up to par in a week. Even if I fail at that, the benefits still remain. I'll have worked my voice enough to be at least prepared for things of a far less technical nature.

Reverend Tommy Gunn and I have been speaking about this topic of performing at the drop of a hat. We both share a unique history dating back to our teens. By some twist of fate, he was cast all the way from Ohio in a musical group (Young Americans) based in Orange County made up of talent from all over the US. We were selected from hundreds of triple threat kids. Neither of us had any clue when we met about a year ago at the Empire Amusement Hall that we had already met once at an impressionable point in our artistic development.

He's kept up his abilities to perform instantly as a fully contained act. I haven't, though I moved away from musical theater, opera or anything other than pure acting.

As much as I regret the sidetrack I took from performing, it was necessary. I needed the living to become a better artist. All the technical understanding in the world couldn't put the truth in my work like experiencing life. And I did just that with great intensity if not abandon.

It'll be an interesting week.
